Obituary for Richard John "Dick" Somerick

Richard “Dick” John Somerick, 80, of New Martinsville, WV died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 while at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, WV.

“Dick” was born June 24, 1935 in Barberton, OH, son of the late Joseph Andrew and Mary Rose (Zakraysek) Somerick.

He was a retired chlorine operator for PPG with forty-four years of service, member of Barberton Moose Lodge No. 759, loved children – especially babies, huge sports fan, dedicated fan of Magnolia Blue Eagles, a workaholic, and member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Barberton, OH.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Robert Somerick and son-in-law, Frank Elasky.

Surviving are his wife of thirty-three years, June Somerick; four sons, Richard (Lisa) Somerick II of Lodi, OH, Joseph Somerick of Barberton, OH, Charles “Dale” (Deborah) Baldwin of Akron, OH and Kenneth (Rochelle) Baldwin of Palm Bay, FL; four daughters, Kathy (Terry) Steinwand of Akron, OH, Mary (Larry) Trenta of Barberton, OH, Diane White of Barberton, OH, Tammy Moss of Norton, OH and Deborah Elavsky of Akron, OH; two sisters, Delores (William) Kenna and Patricia “Patty” (Ronald) Gable both of Barberton, OH; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and three more on the way; numerous children that he helped his wife to take care of here in New Martinsville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville with friend, David Benson officiating.

Interment to be held at the convenience of the family in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH.
