Elmer “Ray” Mayfield, 81, of Paden City, WV died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 while at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

“Ray” was born May 25, 1934 in Paden City, WV son of the late Guy and Goldie (Fagert) Mayfield.

He was a retired maintenance worker for Corning Glass in Paden City, a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict; loved fishing and hunting and a member in the New Martinsville Moose Lodge #931, Sistersville VFW Post 6327, Sistersville Elks Lodge No. 333, American Legion Marne Post No. 28, American Legion Post No. 86 and American Legion Post No. 3.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Mayfield and twin brothers, Donald and Ronald Mayfield; sister, Blanche Doty and great nephew, Mark Doty.

Surviving are two nephews, Larry (Sandy) Doty and Kevin (Jeanann) Doty both of Paden City, WV; great niece, Meghann Ferrell and her children, Amaya and Solomon; longtime friends, Helen and the late Bob Chalk, Bill Billiter and Dave and Nancy Billiter and canine companion, Lumpy.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City where service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016.

Complete military service will be conducted by the Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking memorial contributions be made, in “Ray’s” name, to the Paden City Park, PO Box 233, Paden City, WV 26159.
