The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Phillip Richmond can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

My Old Racing Buddy

I just found out about my old racing buddy.  Right now I am heartbroken, but I celebrate the good times that we had back in the 70's and 80's.  Back then we all lovingly knew Phil as "Brillo".

Back in the day, I did a lot of drag racing.  Brillo had a deep interest in cars too.  He would help me work on my car and we had a lot of good times doing that.  When it was time to go to the races at National Trail Raceway (near Columbus, Oh) on Sunday morning, he would be at my house at 6:00 am, bright and cheery, ready to go.  It usually was a long day and we would not get home till evening, but Brillo was always right there, ready to help out.

I remember when Phil worked at the Boron station in New Martinsville.  Racing friends would gather there on a regular basis and "bench race".  Sometimes I would take my car there on Saturday to tune it up.  At that time my son, Mike was 3 years old and he would come with me to the Boron.  Phil would talk to Mike and make him feel part of the group.  There were a LOT of good memories generated at the Boron.

Even though I have not seen Phil for years, I will always remember him as a friend and cherish the good times we had together.
