Obituary for Gary Lee Cochran

Gary Lee Cochran, 78, of Paden City, died Sept. 29 at Ruby Memorial Hospital Morgantown surrounded by his family.

Gary, born Sept. 4, 1939 at his childhood home in Paden City, was the son and 10th child of the late Everett “Bremo” and Dora Brookover Cochran. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Cochran Grimm, and three brothers, Eugene Cochran, James “Bud” Cochran, Jarold “Beanie” Cochran and a granddaughter Alisa Lee Jackson. Gary was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Mission in Sistersville.

Gary married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann (Huffman) on September 19th, 1959, having celebrated their 58th anniversary on Sept. 19.

In addition to his wife, Judy, Gary is survived by his five children: Lisa (Tim) Jackson of Middlebourne; Leslie (Mike) Carpenter of Elmore, Ohio; Gary Lee II (Johnna) Cochran of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; William Lenden “Len” (Carla) Cochran of Atascocita, Texas, and London Cochran of Barnesville, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren Amanda, Luke, Ashley, Trey, Tyler, Michael, Chelisa, Ridge, Taylor “T-Bird”, Olivia, Emily, Nick, Dylan, Sydney, Paige, Graham; fourteen great grandchildren. Gary is survived by four sisters, Grace Grimm of Warren, OH; June Pyles of Aliquippa, Pa.; Thelma “Tink”(Bob) Haught, Aliquippa and Bernidene (Jim) Culp of Paden City and brother, Warren Cochran of Denton, NC. Gary is also survived by brothers-in-law, Jan (Janet) Huffman of New Holland, Pa.; Joe (Linda) Huffman of Worthington, Ohio; J. Ford Huffman of Washington D.C.; and sister-in-law Dorothy Cochran, Fostoria, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gary was a longtime high school basketball official and a member of several fraternal organizations throughout the area, including the VFW, Moose Lodge, and Eagles. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Gary worked at Bayer. He graduated from Paden City High School in 1957 and still holds the school record for most points in a basketball game with 65. Gary’s greatest love and joy were his family, his country, the Paden City Wildcats, and the West Virginia Mountaineers. His smile and personality touched every person he was with.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Sistersville, WV with Rev. James LaCrosse and Rev. James McCafferty as co-celebrants.

Rosary service will be held 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Interment in Paden Memorial Gardens in Paden City, WV.
