The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Leland Harlan can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: Like my sister, Nancy, and brother David, I was there in May for a family gathering. I had only spent time with Leland a couple other times in my life, once being when I was 6 years old for about a week. Unfortunately, we grew up and lived in different areas of the US and it wasn't until the early 90s that I saw him again until this past visit in 2017. I left this spring wishing more than ever that I'd had more time with him, knowing that he was terminally ill. I didn't get to sit on the back porch and hear the stories and laughter, but I enjoyed so much visiting with him at the family picnic. I left my WV visit with a special affection for all of my cousins and family but particularly Lee knowing I would likely never have the chance to see him again. Condolences and prayers for comfort to all who are grieving Lee's passing. RIP Lee. You will not be forgotten.

Condolence: I was back with my siblings in the spring and enjoyed visiting with everybody in the wake of the passing of my father, Dale Harlan. But I especially enjoyed a couple of wonderful evenings with Lee and Denny on Denny's back porch, feeling the cool air coming down out of the hollow and enjoying the stories and laughter. I had spent a little time with Lee before, but I came away from my visit earlier this year with a special affection for him, for his gentleness and courage in facing what we all must eventually face. I wish those warm evenings on the back porch could have gone on forever.
