Condolences

Condolence From: Sal Lasardo Jr
Condolence: Have just heard the dreadful news of Woody's passing. Even though it was 5 years ago, this still hits hard. Having spent some time in Helvetia around the turn of the century, Woody was always gracious with his time to teach others whether it be displaying all of the ways Ramps could be cooked, lining up brat vendors for 'FASNACHT', or making sure OLD MAN WINTER burned in effigy to keep the cold out. Woody was also a staunch supporter of his beloved WVU Mountaineers and boy I tell ya what, if you were having a glass of warm cider out with him you best not criticize the Gold and Blue....EVER, and boy that man could play a mean Tuba and is one of the best musicians I have ever heard. I know that if Woody wanted to, he could have been part of a barbershop quartet in the DC area, he was invited by a Dept of Agr guy up there. He was THAT GOOD, but it would have cut into his time around Helvetia and making it NAME BRAND GLOBAL TOWN. Hopefully the town lets Woody's spirit live on with perhaps a monument or the construction of as Swiss Chalet themed hotel, named THE HIGGINBOTHOM. RIP Sal Lasardo, JR Mount Pilot, NC

Condolence: Words cannot begin to express my sense of loss at Woody's death. Woody and I taught in the Randolph County Schools many years ago. He was a dear friend. Last summer, while visiting my mother, I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with Woody at his home, where he shared his model train layout with me - it was quite impressive and a source of joy for him. We shared memories of our teaching careers, of colleagues, students, and curriculum committees; discussed politics, cats, and life after retirement; and many other subjects both weighty and light-hearted. You are in my prayers. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He strengthen you for the coming days, and keep you safe in the palm of His hand.
