Have just heard the dreadful news of Woody's passing. Even though it was 5 years ago, this still hits hard. Having spent some time in Helvetia around the turn of the century, Woody was always gracious with his time to teach others whether it be displaying all of the ways Ramps could be cooked, lining up brat vendors for 'FASNACHT', or making sure OLD MAN WINTER burned in effigy to keep the cold out.

Woody was also a staunch supporter of his beloved WVU Mountaineers and boy I tell ya what, if you were having a glass of warm cider out with him you best not criticize the Gold and Blue....EVER, and boy that man could play a mean Tuba and is one of the best musicians I have ever heard. I know that if Woody wanted to, he could have been part of a barbershop quartet in the DC area, he was invited by a Dept of Agr guy up there. He was THAT GOOD, but it would have cut into his time around Helvetia and making it NAME BRAND GLOBAL TOWN.

Hopefully the town lets Woody's spirit live on with perhaps a monument or the construction of as Swiss Chalet themed hotel, named THE HIGGINBOTHOM.

RIP

Lark, I played tuba with Woody with the Belington Brass Plus and more recently with Just For Fun band here in Elkins. We sat next to each other as he played baritone. A wonderful man and friend over the years. I am saddened to hear of his passing but, grateful for the times we shared and our Lord's mercy to Woody. B.J. Manning Elkins

What a sad time for our family and the Helvetia community. We have 40+ years of Woody memories to cherish. Woody's involvement in the Folk Dancers, Community Singers, Zion Church, The HRDO, The Hall Association, The Library and Pickens School is appreciated and will be sorely missed. His friendship and all the great times we have shared will remain a lasting legacy.

What a character! We shared many great times as coworkers and partners in crime at Tygarts Valley High School planning Proms from beginning to end. I'll never forget lunchtime and any reason to have cake...ice cream cake for Woody! Glad he is released from his pain, and he will be missed by many for a very long time.
