Obituary for John Paul Carr

John Paul Carr, 77, of New Martinsville, WV passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 6, 2018 while surrounded by his family.

John was born March 13, 1941 in Gassaway, Braxton County, WV; son of the late Clark W. and Georgie (Duckworth) Carr.

He was a retired Resource Conservation Development Coordinator for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, former Vo-Ag, FFA teacher and shop teacher at his home school in Sand Fork, WV, graduate of WVU, past member of New Martinsville Lion’s club, one of the founders of Hundred Area Pride, counselor for Conservation Camp at Cowen, WV for many years. John enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and reading the bible. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Wesley, Ray, Carl and Brown Carr and infant grandson, Janson Tharp.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jean (Freed) Carr; son, Tracy Paul (Robin Neff) Carr of Middlebourne, WV; daughter, Christina Dawn (Tony) Tharp of New Martinsville, WV; brother, Howard (June) Carr of Sand Fork, WV; four sisters, Lillie Robinson of Sutton, WV, Virgie Weiler of Miamisburg, OH, Naomi (Jack) Jarvis of Palm Bay, FL and Violet (Emory) Askins of Germantown, OH; seven grandchildren, Breanne (Charlie Thomas) Carr, Dylan (Chelsea Rosenlieb) Carr, Brittany (Justin) Tomblin, Samantha Lyons, Kyra Tharp, Travis Carr and Zoey Tharp; good friend, Gary Osborne; special canine companion, Tucker; soon to be grandchildren, Nicci Brightwell and her daughter, Lydia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 841 Fourth St., New Martinsville. Local arrangements handled by Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in New Martinsville.
