Obituary for Oliver Tackett

Tackett, Oliver, 87, of Paden City, WV was reunited in death with his beloved wife, Edith, on Friday, June 6, 2014 after a brief stay at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, WV.
Oliver was born in Wheelersburg, KY on January 7, 1927 to the late Lonnie and Stella Cantrell Tackett. He moved to Paden City, WV in the mid-1950s with his wife and two young children. He was a loving family man and loyal member of the community. Oliver was often seen riding his bicycle around town and stopping to visit and chat with everyone.
In addition to being a U.S. Army veteran in WWII (Pacific Theater), Oliver belonged to the Paden City American Legion Post 86. He was a pipefitter and member of UA Local 565. After serving as past president of the Paden City Lion’s Club, Oliver became a Lifetime member. He was a proud member of the Paden City Wild Cat Boosters and rarely missed a game or a chance to pop popcorn or sell concessions to raise funds. Oliver attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Paden City, where he served on many committees. He was an Usher for many years, as well as being a church Trustee.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, one sister, and his beloved wife, Edith Caudill Tackett (2005).
He is survived by his son, Larry (Denise) Tackett, and daughter, Donna (Gary) Sapp, both of Paden City, WV. Also surviving are his brother, Dee Tackett, and sister, “Sis” Conley, both of KY; two granddaughters, Amy (Mike) Sole of Cape Coral, FL and Tammy (Brendan) Boone of Mooreville, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Jack Boone. Oliver was looking forward to the September birth of another great-granddaughter, Baby Girl Sole.
Friends will be received at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City, WV from 1-3 and 6-8 pm on Sunday, June 8, 2014. The funeral service will be at 3 pm on Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Paden City with Pastor Judy Vetter officiating. Interment will follow in Paden Memorial Gardens.
