Obituary for Samuel Jay "Sam" Mason

Samuel “Sam” J. Mason, 56, of Paden City, WV passed unexpectedly on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at his home.

Sam was born April 26, 1961 in New Martinsville, WV; son of the late George and Dorene (Fitzsimmons) Mason.

He graduated from WVU in 1986 with a degree in Forestry Wood Industries Management and worked as a forester for fifteen years before changing careers. He then taught special need students for four years after earning a degree in Special Education. Samuel was a devoted husband, father and good friend. He was a great storyteller who delighted in entertaining those around him. He enjoyed the peace of fishing, hunting, golfing and canoeing and took each of his children with him to share in his passions. He was a member of Crewe Masonic Lodge No. 123 A.F. & A.M. and New Martinsville Moose Lodge No. 931. Sam was following the Solid Rock Baptist Church on-line in Glen Dale, WV.

Samuel Mason and Sandra Bungard were married on June 29, 1985, after dating for seven years. Other survivors include his twin daughters, Amanda and Catherine Mason both of Nitro, WV; son, Jacob Mason of Paden City, WV; sister, Nancy Gregg of Mason, WV and two nephews, Matthew and Bryan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Family is requesting assistance with the funeral cost. Memorial contributions may be made, in Sam’s name, to Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 309 N 4th Ave., Paden City, WV 26159.
