Obituary for David Solomon Blair

David Solomon Blair, 84, of New Martinsville, WV went to meet his Savior on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at his home while surrounded by his family.

Dave was born August 30, 1934 in Akron, Ohio; son of the late Isaac Sherman and Alfreda (Carney) Blair.

He was a retired Training Supervisor for Bayer, a veteran having served in U.S. Air Force and served for sixteen years on the Wetzel County Board of Education. He loved antique cars, camping in his motor home with his family and friends and Gospel music. He sang in the church choir and as well as for the former group known as the Bayertones. Dave was a member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald “Jug” Blair, Sherman “Sonny” Blair and Keith Blair and two sisters, Phyllis Tharp and Jeannine Jobes.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-five years, Naomi (Postlethwait) Blair; two sons, Mark (Roberta) Blair and Michael (Charlene) Blair both of New Martinsville, WV; daughter Kathi (Carl) Schmalz of New Martinsville, WV; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 2-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr., New Martinsville, WV with Pastor Stephen Rector officiating.

Burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV. The Honor Guard will conduct graveside military services.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Dave’s name, to New Martinsville United Methodist Church Choir Program, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr., New Martinsville, WV 26155.
