Obituary for Betty June Shackelford (Ruble)
Betty Ruble Hayhurst Shackelford, 93, of New Martinsville, WV died Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Sistersville Center. Born August 6, 1925 to Emsley Martin Ruble and Delphia Edgell Ruble.
Married James Wesley Hayhurst, her childhood sweetheart in 1942, who died 1946. Remarried to Robert H. Shackelford, who served twenty-two years as a pastor in the United Methodist Church (and former E.U.B. church). He passed away in 1970. Beside her parents, also proceeded in death were two sisters, Gladys Chapman and Ruth Cooper, four brothers, Everett, Harold, Herbert, and Earl J. Ruble; sisters-in-laws, Louise Ruble, Evelyn Ruble and Velma Ruble; brothers-in-laws, Maud Chapman and Lester Cooper; son-in-law, Christopher J. Dougherty.
Surviving are daughter, Sharon Hayhurst Dougherty of New Martinsville; step-daughter, Joan Shackelford of Palm Springs, CA and son, Robert H. Shackelford of Texas; sisters-in-laws, Frances Ruble of Reynoldsburg, OH and Marilyn Hayhurst Tallman of Georgia; step-granddaughter, Maria Toppings; step-great-granddaughter, Kaci Toppings both of Virginia and several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends including Madeline Miller.
Graduated 1967, from West Virginia Business College, Clarksburg, WV. Was employed by McCrory’s in Clarksburg, Nichols Store in Harrisonburg, VA and a retiree of Wetzel County Hospital as a Ward Secretary in 1986.
A member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 50, New Martinsville, was long-time member of New Martinsville Senior Citizens, a member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Friendship Mission Circle.
Friends received 2-8 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at the New Martinsville United Methodist Church, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr., New Martinsville, with Pastor Stephen Rector officiating. Burial in the Masonic Cemetery in Clarksburg, WV.
An Order of Eastern Star service will be held 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the funeral home.
