Obituary for Mary Catherine Fitzsimmons (Cross)
Mary Catherine Fitzsimmons, 93, of Fort Mill, SC, formerly of New Martinsville, WV, went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2019. She was born June 9, 1925 in Reader, West Virginia to the late William and Hazel Cross.
On Christmas Day of 1946, Mary married the love of her life, Newman Fitzsimmons, who passed away in 1999. They had two sons, Patrick and Timothy. Mary was a wonderful mother and found great joy in caring for her family and household. She loved the Lord and was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Mary also enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, adult coloring books, and cooking all American. She loved gardening and growing flowers.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Newman Fitzsimmons; her half-sister, Ruth Gadd Haught of New Martinsville, WV; and her step-sisters, Mary Keough Barber (Bert) of Azle, Texas, Virginia Keough Rawe (Robert) of Springfield, Ohio, and Gertrude Keough of Springfield, OH. She is survived by her brother, William (Bill) C. Cross Jr. of Proctor, WV; her sons, Patrick Fitzsimmons (Bonnie L. McCloud) of Charlotte, NC, and Timothy Fitzsimmons (Veronica E. Spiga) of Aliso Viejo, CA; three grandchildren, Thomas Fitzsimmons of Charlotte, NC, James Fitzsimmons and his wife, Lyndsi, of Cincinnati, OH, and Sara Edwards and her husband, Wes, of Midlothian, VA; and three great-grandchildren, August and Leona Fitzsimmons, and Emma Rose Edwards. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Felix.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Jarvis-William Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s honor to Thoburn United Methodist Church, 209 E Main St., PO Box 4, St. Clairsville, OH 43950; or to your favorite charity.
