Obituary

Roger W. Smith, 81, of Paden City, WV went to meet his Savior on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 while at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Roger was born August 16, 1937 in Barberton, OH; son of the late Ocie Cramer and Doris Leota (Wilcox) Smith.

He was a retired lab technician for the former Union Carbide; loved coaching girls’ softball, volleyball and basketball; coached boys Grasshopper Basketball with Warren Price; had a passion for teaching Bible school to young people and was a member of the Paden City Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Smith and brother-in-law, Cato Smith.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-two years, Janet (Yeater) Smith; son, Chris (Diane Nye) Smith of New Martinsville, WV; two daughters, Sheree Williams of Cleveland, OH and Kari (Gary) Cardelein of Paden City, WV; brother, Larry (Lenore) Smith of Fernando Beach, FL; sister, Nola Smith of Akron, OH; sister-in-law, Barbara Smith of Friendly, WV; nine grandchildren, Adam, Zachary, Kira, Ryan, Casey, Sydney, Alex, Tim and Kenon; five great grandchildren, Tessa, Brady, Trey, Brantley and Kori and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends received 2-8 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City. Funeral service 11 a.m., Monday, June 17, 2019 at the Paden City Church of Christ with Brian Price officiating. Burial to follow in Paden Memorial Gardens in Paden City.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Roger’s name, to Tyler County High School Girls Volleyball, 1993 Silver Knight Drive, Sistersville, WV 26175.

I was so very sorry to hear of the loss of Roger. He was such a fine Christian man and a very knowledgeable student of the bible. I think of all the many students that he taught in bible class.
