Today is the day after we laid Uncle Donnie to rest. So sad that he is no longer with us. He was a good man with a good heart. He worked hard and always took care of his family. I am so thankful for the memories of the things he used to do with me and my family when we would visit. I was sad to see you suffering and wished you would have been able to overcome your illness and come home. God had other plans I guess. RIP Uncle Donnie. I love you and miss you.

Love,
Cindy

My condolences to Donnie's family. Donnie was a good friend in my youth. We both worked at Bruce Lanes for a number of years in the late1950's and bowled on the same league team, the Fat Boys. Not an apt name as we were both on the slender side. The Fat Boy was a drive-in restaurant located where Captain D's now stands. In 1960, we won the first ever New Martinsville City-wide Bowling Championship and we would travel to play teams in other towns. Donnie was a great bowler and was a mainstay on that team. I can still see that ball up over his shoulder as he would approach the foul line to release the ball, and I can remember that contagious laugh of his. We lost touch after I left the area in the 60's. But, it warmed my heart when I read in the then Wetzel Democrat that he had bowled a 300 games once. I was happy to meet his niece Mary Rose and her mom on a photography workshop up near Sandusky, OH a couple years ago. What a surprise that was to meet someone from New Martinsville and that they were relatives of a friend of my youth. I am so happy that Donnie had a wonderful family and stayed the kind person he was as a young man. I am unable to come for the viewing and funeral. But, I just wanted his family to know that I always appreciated Donnie's friendship when I was growing up. If I hadn't moved away, I know we would have been long life friends and partners on many a bowling team. Rest in peace Donnie.
