Obituary

Cassandra Varner Aiken passed peacefully on August 23, 2020, surrounded by her children. She was so deeply loved by all who knew her, beautiful inside and out. Cassandra was born in Tulsa, OK on April 26, 1961. A mother extraordinaire, passionate learner, world traveler, published author, beloved teacher, wife, and friend to all who knew her; Cassandra worked as a public school teacher early in her career before homeschooling each of her four children. Cassandra then returned to school herself, earning a masters degree in TESOL. Cassandra spent the last 12 years teaching and mentoring students for whom English was a second language in both Wood and Doddridge county schools. Cassandra is survived by her husband Tim Aiken of Sistersville; her four children Rachel (and Sam) Propst of Philippi, Michaelyn (and Kenton) Schrock of Morgantown, Matthew Kennedy of Nashville,TN, Amy Kennedy of Morgantown; her one granddaughter, Arden Propst; her cherished siblings David (and Kim) Varner, Abigail (and Rusty) Nida; many beloved nieces and nephews; her stepchildren Allison Carse of Weirton and Matt Carse of Ewa Beach, HI. Cassandra was preceded in death by her mother Corrine Prenett Varner and father James Bayard Varner. There will be a private celebration of life to be determined by family at a later date; there will not be a visitation. My name is Kathy Hutzler, I did not have the privilege of knowing Cass beyond a brief acquaintance when she attended the women's Bible study at Liberty Street Church in Parkersburg. She was such a lovely and extremely kind person with a beautiful spirit. I was so saddened to hear of her passing. Praying for your family.

Cass was a young girl when she and her family moved into our neighborhood. We watched her blossom into a lovely and accomplished woman, an amazing mother and teacher. Our hearts go out to her family.

I'm so shocked to find out that Cass has passed away! Cass and I were good friends in junior high and high school and I also got to see her at our 30th PHS class reunion. She looked the same at age 48 as she did at age 18! I have fond memories of Cass and I taking a lifesaving class at the YMCA and then we both worked as lifeguards at the City Park Pool. Four other friends, Cass and I decorated my car for our senior year at PHS for Color Day and our car WON! I'm sure she will be missed by all!! God Bless. Kelly Rutherford Norman, Crestwood, KY
