Obituary for Dennis Wayne "Denny" Johnson

Dennis Wayne Johnson, 77, of Woodsfield, OH passed away Saturday October 17, 2020 peacefully in his home. Many friends and family addressed him as “Denny.”

He was born February 13, 1943 in Lewistown, Montana. As a child, Denny’s parents John Johnson and Evelyn moved he and his brother Jerry to Wilson, OH for John to assist in the construction and operation of Olin Aluminum, which would later become Ormet. Denny went to elementary school in Beallsville, and later would graduate high school from Woodsfield High School.

Upon graduating high school, Denny enlisted for four years in the U.S. Navy. He served as an electronics technician on the maiden voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise, the first nuclear aircraft carrier. After this he worked at Olin Aluminum for 39 ½ years throughout its transitions as Consolidated Aluminum and Ormet.

It was at Olin that Denny met and then married his wife of 52 years, Martha Ann Renner. The two built a house in 1970 at the edge of Shadow Lake, near Miltonsburg, OH, where they would have two sons Matt and Chet Johnson. At this home he enjoyed hobbies such as building and flying many radio controlled airplanes, and restoring several classic cars. Denny was a member of the Woodsfield First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Johnson; brother, Jerry Johnson; sons, Matt and Chet Johnson and three grandchildren, Hailey Johnson, Hayden Johnson, and Onyxia Tiefenbach.

At his request there will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations if desired may be sent to Woodsfield First United Methodist Church, attention Pastor Dave Cottrell, 136 N Main Street, Woodfield, OH 43793.
