Madge E. (Smith Tallman) Barnes, 90, of New Martinsville, WV died Saturday, December 26, 2020 while at The Heritage in St. Marys.
Born in New Martinsville, WV on October 9, 1930 to the late Charles and Jessie (Winter) Smith.
Graduated from Magnolia High School in 1949. She worked for nineteen years at the former New Martinsville Bank and five years for the Wetzel County Board of Education. Member of the First Baptist Church since March 3, 1941, where she held several different positions and sang in the church choir. Also was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #50 in New Martinsville, sang with the Meistersingers group, member of the Wetzel county Democrat Women, member of the Red Hat Society, “The Ohio River Scarlett Bells”, was in the Birthday Girls Group, and member of a Canasta Club which started in the very early fifties all of these were in New Martinsville.
Preceded in death, besides her parents, was her daughter, Beverly (Tallman) Durig; son, Chuck Tallman; first husband, Jack Tallman; second husband, Jim Barnes; sisters, Ilene Sommer and Eleanor Leu; brothers, Dale “Bud” Smith and Robert “Popcorn” Smith and special friend, Nancy Davis.
Surviving is granddaughter, Caitlyn Tallman; great granddaughter, Julia McNeely; step granddaughter, Sheena Keating and several nieces, nephews plus many, many friends and one special one, Pat Carney.
Friends received 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Homes, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV, where services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020 with Pastor Don Birum officiating. Burial to follow in Northview Cemetery in New Martinsville.
Since several of her family members are unable to attend, due to the virus, a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2021.
