Obituary for Ernest Lee "Ernie" Blatt

Ernest “Ernie” Lee Blatt, 101, of Paden City, WV died Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his family.

Ernie was born October 2, 1919 in Porters Falls, WV; son of the late Virgil L. and Iva (Snodgrass) Blatt.

He was a retired pipefitter for PPG with thirty years, a U.S. Navy two years. First Marine Division, Guadalcanal in South Pacific, Marine Corp five years. Medic Pharmacist Mate (PHM) First Class, veteran serving in WWII, member of VFW Post 6327, American Legion Post 86, Life member of the Tyler County Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing songs, riding his four-wheeler and spending time with family and friends at Hissam’s Camp. Member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Paden City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Teresa Martin; brothers, Wilbur, Bob and Tom Blatt and sisters, Mary Kidder, Dreva Harris, Betty Billiter, Lena Smith and Melva Stroupe.

Surviving are his wife of seventy-three years, Dorothy (Beagle) Blatt; two sons, Edward (Brenda) Blatt of Culleoka, TN and Steve Blatt of Paden City, WV; three daughters, Wanda Ferrebee, Patti (Mike) Jobes and Linda (Larry) Sweeney all of Paden City, WV; brother, Frank Blatt of Paden City, WV; two sisters, Bonnie Hizer of Paden City, WV and Phyllis Sonnerburger of Akron, OH; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins and two feline friends, Tommy and Sammy.

Friends received 2-8 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church with Monsignor Kevin Quirk officiating. Burial to follow in Paden Memorial Gardens in Paden City, WV.

Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday.

Honor Guard will conduct military service.
