Obituary for William Melvin "Bill" Garrett

William “Bill” Melvin Garrett, 81, of Sistersville, WV died Tuesday, December 7, 2021 while at Sistersville General Hospital.

Bill was born January 29, 1940 in Jacksonville, FL, son of the late Charles and Ona Frances (George) Garrett.

He was retired from the former Ormet, Corp., a U.S. Navy veteran, enjoyed reading his Bible and working on puzzles, loved his dogs and was a member of the Paden City Baptist Church where he served as an Deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Christine Garrett; two sisters, Mary Dana Strickland and Frances Charlene Dillard; his twin brother, David Charles Garrett; son-in-law, Thomas Shepherd and step-mother, Mary Alderman Garrett.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, M. Anne (Davis) Garrett; two daughters, Billie Anne Garrett of Clarksburg, WV and Robin Susan (Joe) Mayhugh of Barnesville, OH; three sisters, Carolyn (Bill) Gedig of Howey In The Hills, FL, Jackie (Jim) Hackerd of Tampa, FL and Eva Garrett of Alabama; seven grandchildren, Cheyenne, Savanna and Austin Mayhugh, Cody, Logan, Christine and Ophelia.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville. Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.
