Obituary for Leonard Ray Oates Jr.
Leonard Ray Oates, Jr., 63, of New Martinsville, WV transitioned from this life on Friday, December 31, 2021 while at Wetzel County Hospital.
Leonard was born September 3, 1958 in Fairmont, WV, son of the late Leonard Ray, Sr. and Ethel Mae (Fluharty) Oates.
He was a retired correctional officer, had a passion for old muscle cars, loved his family, friends and neighbors, enjoyed being outdoors and all animals. Graduate of Magnolia High School Class of 1976.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Oates.
Surviving are his wife of forty years, Christina Rose (Herrick) Oates; son, Eric (Maria) Oates of New Martinsville, WV; brother, Paul “PJ” (Vicki) Oates of Grafton, WV and grandson, Hunter Robert Cole Oates.
As the family prepares to celebrate Leonard’s life they would like for you to bring a happy story or memory to share with them on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 between the hours of 2-7:30 p.m., the family will have a brief ceremony from 7:30 until 8 p.m. Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville.
