Sherman “Don” Donald Richmond, 79, of Columbus, OH peacefully surrounded with love and family passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Mount Carmel Grove City Hospital, Grove City, OH.
Don was born January 8, 1943 in BeBee, WV son of the late John and H. Lucille (Postlethwait) Richmond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle “Issy” Tiber Richmond; sisters, Florence, Patty, Laura, Imogene and a set of twins at birth; sister-in-law, Betty; brother-in-law, David and in-laws, Russell and Rosemond Tiber.
He attended Magnolia High School and joined the U.S. Army prior to graduation and later went on to obtain his GED. He was proud of his service to our country 1961-1964. Don showed up for a date with Betty and ended up dating and marrying her sister, Isabelle in 1966. Throughout his work career he sold insurance, was a masonry worker, worked at Ormet, ran a beer distributorship, ran Sunset Motel and retired from the State of NC Dept. of Corrections after which he began his hobby of collecting marbles. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, past member of the Fur, Fin and Feather Club. Don was a member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Kelly (John) Stoneking of Grove City, OH, Chuck Richmond of Columbus, OH, Beth Ann Richmond of Asheboro, NC and Rusty (Lisa) Richmond of New Martinsville, WV; grandchildren, Jill, Jacob, Ben, Asia, Quintin, Brandon, Ashelynne and Trey; great grandchildren, Mia, Loki, Adalynn and Ivy; siblings, John (Karen) Richmond, Harold (Sue) Richmond, Burl (Shirley) Richmond, brothers-in-law, Drex Wood and Kenny Goddard and several nieces, nephews, families and friends from West Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio who loved him.
Friends received Noon-4 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, WV with funeral at 11 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2022 with Pastor Stephen Rector. Burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville where he will be honored with an Honor Guard service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors or charity of donor’s choice.
