Obituary for Ralph E. Phillips
Ralph E. Phillips, 81, of New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, April 17, 2023 at Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville, WV.
He was born August 1, 1941, in New Martinsville, WV, son of the late Ralph and Betty (Thomas) Phillips of Pine Grove, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gene (Kathy) Phillips of Piney, and grandson, Devon Phillips of New Martinsville.
Surviving is wife of fifty-seven years, Velinda (Allen), and two sons, Jon of Charleston, WV and Allen of New Martinsville and grandchildren, Mikayla (Ethan) Garrison of Dublin, OH, Jacob and Jessie of New Martinsville, Allison and Emily of Charleston and great-granddaughter, Lily, of Dublin. Also surviving are brothers, Steve (Hope) Phillips of New Martinsville, and Robert Phillips of Myrtle Beach, sister-in-law, Carol Sue Allen of Wileyville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. He enjoyed yard work and doing all kinds of projects around the house.
Ralph was a former employee of PPG Industries where he held numerous positions including that as an electrician and was a licensed real estate agent affiliated with Strout Realty, Inc. from 1972 until 1982.
He was county Assessor for thirty years from 1982 until December 2012 when he retired from the position. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau, International Assoc. of Assessors Assoc., Wetzel County Democrat Executive Committee, and American Legion Post 28 and a U.S. Army veteran.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville, where services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2023 with Niles Hissom of the Church of Christ officiating.
Interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park will follow after funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
