Obituary for Walton Burtette Christman (Walt)

Walton "Walt" B. Christman, 88, of New Martinsville, WV was reunited with his wife Nancy, former dogs and other loved ones on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 while at Rose Haven in Indiana, PA.

Walt was born March 10, 1935, in Monroe Co., OH son of the late Harold P. and Helma G. (Stephen) Christman.

He retired after 31 years as an Instrument Mechanic from Bayer Corp. Walt attended THE Ohio State University for two years and then joined the Army where he served in a ballistic meteorology unit in Europe. He served many years on the Wetzel County Hospital Board and for 51 years on the Bayer Heritage Federal Credit Union Board. Affectionally known as The Badger by those closest to him, Walt would say something contrary to his own opinion, just to illicit and argument and would then sit back and watch the bickering ensue. It was recreation for him. He was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Christman.

His is survived by his daughter Jenifer Christman, Indiana, PA., brothers Gene Christman, Dundalk, MD., (wife Dana, deceased) and Gordon Christman, Dallas TX., (wife, Sharon), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received 12:30 pm until 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2023 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home, 1224 S Bridge St., New Martinsville. At 4pm, a catered meal in Walt’s honor at the Bayer Heritage FCU new Operations Center will follow the visitation at 788 N. St. Rt. 2, New Martinsville. Funeral service will be held at Jarvis-Williams at 11 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 with burial to follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield, OH.

Walt’s daughter would like to thank 365 Hospice, of Carrolltown, PA. for the excellent care and support they provided.
