Obituary for William James "Bill" Patterson
William “Bill” James Patterson, 73, of New Martinsville, WV left this world to be reunited with his true love on Saturday, September 16, 2023, while at his home and surrounded by his family.
William was born November 27, 1949, in New Martinsville, WV son of the late John D. and Zela Mae (Lowther) Patterson.
He was a retired electrician for the former Ormet Corp., enjoyed fishing, the Mountaineers, Magnolia Blue Eagles and deep-sea fishing in the Outer Banks; member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 50, Wetzel Lodge No. 39 A.F. & A.M., and Osiris Shrine in Wheeling and a member of New Martinsville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first love, Martha (Hart) Patterson.
Surviving is his daughter, Elizabeth (James) Johnson of New Martinsville, WV; granddaughter, Sara Johnson of New Martinsville, WV; brother, Charles (Barbara) Patterson of Virginia (who chose to have no contact with him); his ex-wife, Ruth Patterson of Georgia and her children and grandchildren and a step-son, Jeremiah Bearden of SanAntonio, TX.
Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Eastern Star service will be conducted at 6 p.m. and funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
William was a big supporter of higher education, so memorial contributions may be made to Bethany College, The Bethany Fund, 31 East Campus Dr., Bethany, WV 26032.
