Shirley Louise Mayfield, 76, of Monessen, PA formerly of New Martinsville and Paden City, WV died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 while at Haven Crest Nursing Center in Monongahela, PA.

Shirley was born March 23, 1939 in New Martinsville, WV, daughter of the late Noah and Genevie (Steepleton) Fitzsimmons.

Shirley was a wonderful wife and mother who had a flair for life. She loved cooking, playing the piano, singing, and taking vacations. Professionally, she had been a school teacher for the Kanawha County School System, a telephone operator for C&P Telephone, a cashier for Witschey’s Grocery Store, a clerk at Clark’s Grill and a cook for the Tyler County Schools. She was a member of the River Hill Church of Christ in Monongahela, PA.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Billiter (2014).

Surviving are her husband of fifty-two years, John C. Mayfield; son, John T. Mayfield of Monessen, PA, daughter, Jill C. (Charley) Dunn of South Charleston, WV; two brothers, Gary (Pam) Fitzsimmons of New Martinsville, WV and Carroll (Marilyn) Fitzsimmons of Canton, OH; sister, Janet (Jack) Waters of Paden City, WV; brother-in-law, Melvin Billiter of Paden City, WV and two step grandchildren, Emily Dunn and Mary “Mimi” Dunn as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Jarvis-Williams Funeral Home in Paden City, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016.

Interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in New Martinsville, WV.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Shirley’s name, to the Paden City Band Boosters, 217 N. 4th Avenue, Paden City, WV 26159.
